The Typical Local Download Speed of our 10Gbps Broadband plan is between 6.5Gbps to 8.1Gbps.
This typical local download speed range is the general speed you will likely experience using a direct wired LAN connection to the ONT. A CAT 6 cable (or better) and a computer capable of saturating a 10Gbps ethernet port is required to achieve the typical speed for a 10Gbps plan.
The typical local download speeds above were obtained throughout the day from a sampling of users who have purchased the Eero Max 7 router from us in September to early October 2024. The Eero router provides statistics of bandwidth utilization and maximum speeds achieved based on real traffic towards speed test servers located locally.
As different speed test sites may have different configurations and test conditions, we recommend that you use Ookla’s speed test pointing to SIMBA Telecom when doing your own wired speed test.
Your experience with the download speed will still vary as it can be affected by many factors such as network congestion, server load, device and Wi-Fi limitations. Here are some tips on achieving better download speeds and better Wi-Fi connections.
Note however that based on NLT’s standard topology for the provision of standard Residential GPON services, there is a 24:1 split ratio for each port. This means that a single 10Gbps port on SIMBA’s equipment is shared by up to 24 users. SIMBA deploys a “fair-queue” scheme that ensures no single user can monopolize the available bandwidth; resources are shared equally among the actively connected users. Therefore, the theoretical lowest speed at any time could be as low as 10Gbps / 24 = approximately 400Mbps.
SIMBA does not shape or otherwise selectively throttle bandwidth on our connections, except for non-payment situations.
